A trio in free flight through the realms of contemporary jazz.
Combining a classic jazz setup with the unconventional voice of the flute, this ensemble stands out for its bold sound. Fronted by flautist Mark Lotz, the trio features two celebrated musicians making waves in the Dutch jazz scene: drummer Jamie Peet and NYC veteran double bassist Zack Lober. Together, they push the boundaries of modern jazz, blending intricate improvisation with an exploratory spirit.
The flute is rarely heard in such robust, dynamic settings, giving this trio an intriguing position in contemporary jazz. Lotz’s consistently challenging approach as an improviser shatters preconceptions about the flute, proving its versatility and power as a jazz instrument.
“Mark Alban Lotz is bringing sexy back into jazz.” – All About Jazz, USA
The CD ‘Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out!’ is inspired by the Eight-Circuit Model of Consciousness, a philosophical and psychedelic concept developed by Dr. Timothy Leary in the 1960s. This conceptual framework serves as the foundation for the trio’s compositions and improvisations, offering a new exploration of sound and thought.
“Almost monomaniacally driven musician.” – JazzAndMo, Belgium
Timothy Leary (1920-1996), a prominent figure of the psychedelic 1960s was an American psychologist and writer who pioneered LSD for therapeutic use in psychiatry. He developed the “eight circuit model” of consciousness in his book “Exo-Psychology” (1977).

Raised in Thailand, Uganda and Germany my appetite for musical adventures takes me all over the globe. Always on the lookout for vibrant collaborations with unique voices in music, far from conventional, hitting the essence and celebrate life.
The Mark Lotz Trio marks my comeback to jazz.
I deliver a sound, giving my instrument dimension and depth and I love to casually shatter any stereotypes around the flute. My solo recitals in contemporary music, interpretations of Afro Cuban , West African music and free improvised music especially gained much international acclaim.
Obsessed by music I use my voice to reach a world beyond. I surrender completely to artistic expression.
I performed and/or recorded with a.o.:
Chris Potter, David Tronzo, Don Byron, conga legend Miguel ‘Anga’ Diaz, soloists of the Conjunto Folklorico National de Cuba, Indian Underground star Najma Akthar, the Nightingale of Tibet Namghal Lhamo, electronic music pioneer Bob Ostertag, Moldavian violist Anatol Steffanet, Romanian accordion phenomenon Petar Ralchev, legendary NYC salsa icon Eddy Martinez, Thomas Strønen, RnB star Leon Ware or the wet dogs from Istanbul ‘Islak Köpek‘.
And Dutch artists like Theo Lovendie, Jesse van Ruller, Michael Moore, Han Bennink or Ernst Reijseger.

The mutual understanding and inspiration was evident, drummer Wojciech Buliński joined and a new exciting ensemble came to live. There they recorded their debut album ‘The Wroclaw Sessions’.
Poland has a long and rich jazz tradition. After Tomasz Stanko and Krystof Komeda, more and more new Polish musicians are coming to the forefront of the international music scene (for example, ECM artists Maciej Obara and Marcin Masecki).
