De Molen De Ster in Utrecht.
Mark Lotz invites artists from different traditions of the world to
perform music in a gorgeous location: a windmill with a wood workshop in full swing.
Expect an interactive performance, talks and music in a unique and informal setting.
A reflection on the lives and art of artists of the many cultures that the Netherlands is rich in. In the days of wars, crises and social unrest, let their artistic voices be heard.
The evening will be opened at 20.00 with a solo performance of an artist/activist. During the main concert Mark Lotz also will talk with the musicians, reflecting their lives and their music. An interactive evening in music and performance in a new format.

Fernando Lamerinhas is an author, poet, vocalist and guitarist from Portugal. His solo performance follows a fusion of Portugeese, Capverdian and Brazilian Music.
Fernando Lameirinhas
Fernando had to flee his homeland of Portugal as a child because of Salazar’s dictatorial regime. The Lameirinhas family ends up in the Netherlands via Belgium. The music attracts: Fernando soon becomes famous and performs all over the world. In his recent book “A Fado For My Father he tells this impressive and moving story. Only after his death, and after Portugal became a democracy, was Fernando able to write a fado for his father.

Daniel Okiror is a fierce activist and multi instrumentalist from Uganda. After his solo performance Gambia Calls takes over in a fusion between Indian and Gambian music
Daniel Okiror
Daniel Okikor is an African musician from Utrecht, a musician aiming to archive tribal music from his roots in Uganda. He performs on various little instruments and his solo performance is very mesmerizing. Besides that Daniel is also a passionate activist who, with his ‘Beats Of Hope Africa‘, realises a multitude of social projects in Uganda such as building houses and helping and educating children.

Gambia Calls
Gambia Calls is about an encounter of three world musicians in an a sound, organic ritual and spiritual trance. The sound African cora in combination with Indian tabla simply is mesmerizing, adding Indian Bansuri you truly get a magic sonority, intimacy and dynamic. The music reflects Africa, India, Jazz, improvisation but above all the audience is taken along in a story of the celebration of life.

Mandala Tribe is an synergetic combination in electronic music with Jazz and Indian music. Decoding Raga’s in dynamic beats, harmony and with an itching electro-acoustic sound and spiritual touch in : BEATS, BREATHS & BYTES. Performances for the Vrije Geluiden (VPRO) Television, Mini JazzFest Amsterdam (Bimhuis), Music Meeting, Nijmegen and Deventer International.

Soloist, composer, producer in jazz often crossing borders with other cultures. Collaborations spans an arc from Afro-cuban, West African, Indian, Turkish up to Moldavian musical traditions.
Worked with many unknown and many famous but equally gifted unique voices in music all around the globe. To name a few Chris Potter, Don Byron, Han Bennink, Najma Akthar, ‘Anga’ or Ernst Reijseger. Subject of international publications, prize-winner, nominated for the Edison and Beyond Magazine prize. Professor for flute at the Utrecht and Rotterdam Conservatories.

Corona measures
Do you have a cold or do you have other complaints? Then you can pass your ticket on to someone else or cancel your ticket yourself via the link you received on your ticket. For our last concert on Oktober 14th you need a Corona Proof (Corona bewijs) to show (on mobile or paper) at the entrance.

Jawa Manla
Born in Aleppo, and grew up in Damascus, Syria. Started playing music at the age of eleven as a daughter of an oud player. Later studied music at Sulhi Al Wadi music institute In Damascus and in Egypt at the “Beit El Oud”, the Arabic Oud House institute under the supervision of the Iraqi Oud player Naseer Shamma. Jawa also received private lessons by the Turkish oud player Nacati Celik in Istanbul in 2014.
Since June 2015, based in the Netherlands and performs with many Dutch and international musicians. She is studying at the conservatory of Codarts, for her Bachelor of music.
Shashwathi Jagadish
Carnatic musician from Chennai, was only five years old when she was inspired to start singing by her grandmother. She started learning Carnatic music formally at the age of seven under the tutelage of Shri Neyveli Ganeshan. Later, she continued her study under the guidance of Smt. Vijaylakshmi Subramaniam and Kalaimamani Smt. Bhushany Kalyanaraman. At present, she is a student of Shri. A K S Murali.
Heiko Dijker
Heiko Dijker is an tabla player, composer whose playing is marked by energy and rhythmic poetry. After years of traditional training in India, he continued to learn with grandmaster Faiyaz Khan in the Guru-Shisya (Master-Disciple) system. Currently Heiko has joined his traditional skills with his electronic production and composition.
Heiko has worked with artists like Shankar Mahadevan, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Meeta Pandit, Purbayan Chatterjee, Melissa Etheridge, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Lavinia Meijer, Rembrandt Frerichs and Ravichandra Kulur.
Stefan Schmid
Pianist, composer, producer in settings ranging from Jazz, Electronic, Pop, Afro Cuban/Salsa, Bossa, Rock, Punk, House, DnB, Techno, Lounge, Free Form Impro. Part of the New Cool Colllective and New Cool Collective Big Band, Caro Emerald and his Guerilla sleaze Duo Hygiene. Together with Lilian Vieira and Stefan Kruger forms the band Zuco 103.
He winner of the Silveren Harp, the Edison award and nominated for the BBC World Music Awards in 2003.

Mola Sylla
Mola Sylla is a Senegalese musician. He is a singer and plays such traditional African instruments as the mbira, kongoma, xalam, and kalimba. Sylla has collaborated with a wide variety of musicians, including in jazz and cross-cultural settings. He has worked with Ernst Reijseger, with whom he composed the score to Werner Herzog’s 2005 film The Wild Blue Yonder.
A founding member of the groups Senemali (a collaboration between Senegalese and Malian musicians) and VeDaKi (formerly Vershki da Koreshki, a quartet made up of Senegalese, Russian, and Indian musicians).
Tarang Poddar
Tarang Poddar is a tabla player, percussionist and composer. His knowledge of the deep routed tradition of Indian Classical music, along with his study in jazz and improvised music vastly opens up his creative boundaries and propels him to work with a wide spectrum of artists, venues and audiences.
Tarang works with the NPO4 Radio in weekly concerts and talk shows on Indian Classical Music. Performances include the Operadagen Rotterdam, Museum Nacht at the Werelds Museum Rotterdam, Sound of Europe Festival and World Music Meeting, Nijmegen.
Lamin Kuyateh
Koraspeler Jalli Lamin Kuyateh is in 1964 geboren in Gambia en komt uit een griotfamilie. Een griot of Djeli is in West-Afrika een dichter en lofzanger en wordt beschouwd als bewaarder en verteller van mondeling overgebrachte tradities en geschiedenis. Jalli Lamin zingt traditionele liederen, daarnaast schrijft en componeert hij ook zijn eigen songs, die gaan over meer recente geschiedenis, sociale problemen, politiek, het leven, de liefde , oorlog en vrede, speciale mensen en alles wat verder nog voor hem belangrijk is.

Gabriel Milliet
Gabriel Milliet comes from São Paulo, Brazil. Rooted in the rich and diverse Brazilian song-writing tradition, his music emanates from the inherent loneliness of being an immigrant and aims to build an intimate moment we can all share. The emotional simplicity of Musica Caipira (a genre from the Brazilias southeastern region), and the cosmopolitan freedom so present in the music of Clube da Esquina (a group of composers from Minas Geraes) are two tangible and audible influences in Gabriel soundscape.
Lilian Vieira
Lilian Vieira is geboren in Teresopolis, Brazilië en groeide op in een familie van traditionele musici, waar samba muziek het middelpunt was.
Sinds woont Lilian 1989 in Nederland en participeerde in tal van cross-over projecten waar Brazilianse muziek zich mengt met soul en pop en projecten waar Braziliaanse muziek centraal stond. Lilian werkt als componist en zanger in Bacan, Angra, Cariopa, Lilian Vieira Grupo, Zuco 103 en in samenwerkingen met onder meer Sfeq, Banda Macaco ( Spanje), , Lotz Of Music, Amparanoia (Spanje), Joe Jackson, Drive Like Maria en Candy Dulfer. In de Nederlandse theaters nam zij onder meer deel aan producties zoals de Female Factory Brasil Beyond the Bundas. Ze werkte als actrice in de serie 9 dagen va de Gier.
Udo Demandt
Udo is opgegroeid in Siegen (Duitsland) in een muzikaal gezin met Popmuziek, Volksmuziek, Mars. Hij speelt in talloze formaties van Werledmuziek / Pop / Jazz en is een specialisat in Braziliaanse en Spaanse ( Flamenco-) muziek. Udo speelde o.a. met het Metropole Orkest, BvR Flamenco Bigband, Lilian Vieira Grupo, Magda Mendes, Fernando Lameirinhas.
Daniel de Moraes Aguilar
Born into a musical family in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo, guitarist Daniel de Moraes Aguilar was exposed to a wide range of music from a young age. He spent his childhood in Cuba, where he started playing classical guitar. After returning to Uruguay, popular music like Candombe, Tango and Bossa Nova became his main musical focus of interest. Before long he was playing, recording and touring with many prominent Uruguayan artists such as Ruben Rada (Grammy winner 2011) and Jorge Drexler (Oscar winner 2005).
Daniel performed with some of the top musicians in the Netherlands and abroad like Ivan Lins, Manou Gallo, Bløf, Eric Vloeimans, Fernando Lameirinhas, Lilian Vieira just to mention a few.

Hamid Reza Behzadian
Hamid Reza Behzadian is een Iraanse muzikant, die zich heeft ontwikkeld tot slide gitarist en harmonica player in verschillende muziekstijlen. Zijn muziek kenmerkt zich door de invloeden van zijn Perzische roots, Midden-Oosten melodieën en zijn eerste inspiratiebron,de Amerikaanse Blues. Door kennismaking met de Indiase slide gitaar, besloot hij de richting van Indiase muziek te kiezen. Hij studeert dit jaar af aan Codarts te Rotterdam in World Music. In samenwerking met verschillende muzikanten en in zijn solo-programma brengt hij een muzikale reis ten gehore waarbij hij tradities van oost en west met elkaar verbindt.
Jaber Fayad
Jaber Fayad is an Oud player and composer from Syria. He graduated from the Conservatorium of Damascus in 2015, Master student at Codarts 2020, focusing on Contemporary Solo Oud performance. He studied Azerbaijani music with Master Askar Ali Akbar, Arabic music with Master Issam Rafea. and Ottoman music with master Ayman Jesry, and he did many workshops with Ottoman music masters like Mehmet Bitmez.
Jaber plays traditional and modern, Arabic, Azerbaijani, and Ottoman music and focuses on crossover the Oud with Classical music, and Flamenco.
Jaber has been 5 years in Holland and he played with many different Dutch ensamples like Asko Schönberg, and recently with Nederlands Blazers Ensemble.
Modar Salama
Modar Salama is a drummer and percussionist, born in Damascus. He studied percussion in Damascus and started to build his career as a drummer. He played with the Syrian National Orchestra, the Syrian Big Band and many other international projects in China, Jordan, Malaysia, Tunisia, Austria, Germany, Lebanon, Denmark and Egypt.
Modar worked in the field of Music Theatre, performing a huge number of plays in Syria and the Arabic world. He is now working on a number of projects as an Arabic percussion player and drummer and he is creating his own style influenced by the soul of the Orient.
Rogier Telderman
TELDERMAN wordt gezien als een muzikaal fenomeen waarvoor geen grenzen gelden. Hij weet op een uiterst originele manier invloeden uit de jazz, klassiek en pop te versmelten tot een volstrekt eigen stijl. Dat is hoorbaar op zijn wereldwijd bejubelde debuutalbum Contours dat in 2015 uitkwam. Maar hij gaat net zo makkelijk verbindingen aan met topmusici als Thomas Strønen, Petros Klampanis, Nik Bärtsch en Tuur Florizoone.
De pianist wordt vooral geroemd om zijn prachtige melodielijnen, en zijn virtuoze, organische pianospel. Met violist Adam Baldych en cellist Vincent Courtois bracht hij in september 2020 het album Clouds uit op het gerenommeerde Duitse label ACT Music.
