TAIWAN

INTERNATIONAL IMPROVISATION FESTIVAL

The Taiwan International Improvisation Festival sees a new edition. I’ll be holding a long online interview there talking about improvisation, performing etc . Monday May 24th at 9 am – 12 am (CEST) or 3 pm to 6 pm in Taiwan time. Check it out!

FILMMUSIC, RECORDINGS N OTHER STUFF

Happy to have composed and recorded music for the experimental film ‘June’, a prolongation of an immersive theater play from Taipei.

I did a fun masterclass for the Sibelius Academy Helsinki (Finland) on improvisation and sound.

Did streaming gigs w the Mark Lotz Trio, in duo w Zack Lober at Watch Jazz Live and Raj Mohan.

Recorded tracks for a.o. : Felbm (recorded on good ol’ 4 track tape recorder and to be released on tape – c picture), Marieke Snijders/Wieke Garcia and Michele David & Gospel Sessions. 

Airplay all over the globe

In the past three months there have been (a.o. 2 hour long) specials on my music in the radio during Corona in the Germany, Swiss, Canada and the USA.

The 2nd album of our Yoruba trilogy ‘Lotz Of Music in Havana’ still n again gets airplay at the Latin Jazz shows of WDNA (USA) and Rumba Y Son at Radio Lima (Peru).

And: The track ‘Echoes Of A Life Herafter’ by the Food Foragers (Lotz/Purves) goes viral on several play-lists at Spotify. Crazy world …

New Ensembles

Masakali is a new trio with double bassist Andrea Caruso and vocalist, santoor and tabla player Sandip Bhattacharya. We hope to make our first tour in august.

Harald Walkate Septet • Music At Night. Harald wrote music in the jazz vein with a septet (w trumpet, flute, tenor, trombone and rhythm section). We will record a CD in june.

CONCERTS

The Happy Happy Tour by the Duo Food Foragers (Lotz/Purves) has been postponed to September. This Happy Happy Tour brings our music (which is quite visual and often includes bizarre twists and surprises) to a new audience.

Mark My Wor(l)ds is a world music concert series in collaboration with the Museum Speelklok. The next concert, Brazil Calls is June 26st.

GIST! is a collective of musicians based in Utrecht with a concert series promoting local music often by young upcoming artists. The next show is taking place June 11th with three duets in two halls.

Our living room festival Jazz On The Sofa finally was held online. It was a great success with viewers from all over the world! from Germany, Belgium, France, Taiwan, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom, Canada, USA up to Japan.

A world music festival to come this summer. Let’s thumb.
